Why 6-monthly check-ups matter

Everyone builds up plaque and tartar (scale) around their teeth over time — some people more than others. Regular professional scaling removes this build-up before it leads to gum disease, decay, or bad breath.

We understand that life gets busy, and it’s easy to put off a check-up when nothing feels wrong. But dental problems are almost always easier, cheaper and less invasive to treat when caught early — which is exactly why we recommend a check-up and clean every 6 months, even if you feel fine.

What’s included in a check-up

A typical check-up and clean at MHP Dental includes:

• A thorough examination of your teeth, gums and bite
• Professional scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar
• An oral cancer screening
• X-rays, where needed, to check for issues not visible to the eye
• Personalised advice on brushing, flossing and diet to help you maintain your oral health between visits

Beyond the 6-monthly check-up

Prevention goes further than just check-ups. Depending on your needs, this can also include:

• Fluoride treatments to strengthen enamel and reduce decay risk
• Fissure sealants, particularly for children and teens, to protect the chewing surfaces of back teeth
• Ongoing monitoring of gum health, especially for patients with a history of gum disease
• Tailored hygiene routines for patients who are more prone to decay or plaque build-up
